The skins average cell turnover rate for teenagers is 21 to 28 days, and 28 to 42 days for an adult. Cell turnover rate is the rate of cell mitosis and migration from the dermis to the top of the epidermis. As we age, the cell turnover rate slows down, increasing visible aging of the skin. Keeping the cell mitosis going is one of the goals for skin preservation.
